From “Ayeeson I Yuv You” to
Online Speech Therapy

Hi, I’m Aly 👋

I first heard about speech pathology when I was 14 years old. My little cousin couldn’t say his L’s, and his parents were worried. But I thought it was the cutest thing ever. He used to say, “Ayeeson, I yuv you!” (i.e. Alyson I love you!) — and honestly, that might have been the moment my speechie heart was born (even if I didn’t know it yet).

All through high school, speech pathology sat quietly in the back of my mind. It was a job that helped people, involved kids, and — let’s be honest — lots of talking! So naturally, it felt like me.

But when it came time to choose a university degree, the practical side of me took charge. I chose a Commerce degree, thinking it was the “sensible” path. And while it was interesting, it didn’t quite light me up. I found myself spending most of my holidays doing volunteer and mission trips — from outback Australia to Cambodia — connecting with people, teaching kids, and realising that helping others was where my heart truly belonged.

So, in 2013, I finally took the leap and enrolled in the Master of Speech Language Pathology at the University of Sydney. It was two gruelling years — long nights, endless readings, and a massive jump from crunching numbers to analysing phonemes! But I loved every moment.

My first job was in schools across Sydney, where I got to do a bit of everything — team-teaching whole classes, running small groups, supporting teachers, and collaborating with OTs. It was the perfect introduction to the world of speech pathology.

Later, I joined NSW Health’s Community Health team, where I spent five years honing my skills in complex speech and language disorders, early intervention, and coaching parents and students.

One of my proudest moments was at Sydney Children’s Hospital, where I helped design and launch an early intervention parent training program — empowering families with tools to support their child’s communication at home.

In 2022, life took a fun turn — I moved to Bali! 🌴 I worked at a special needs school, surfed on the weekends, and finally gave myself space to breathe after years of clinical work. That time in Bali reminded me that speech therapy doesn’t have to be confined to four clinic walls — it can be flexible, joyful, and reach families everywhere.

So in October 2023, I launched Bali Speech and Language Centre — my dream project. It combines everything I love: helping children and families communicate better, bringing warmth, empathy, and expertise to every session.

Looking back, I smile at how it all began with “Ayeeson I yuv you.”
Because now, all these years later, I get to help hundreds of families find their own beautiful voices — one word, one laugh, and one connection at a time. 💬✨
